Are you the sort of movie buff who often finds the selections available at the local multiplex to be a bit limited? Well then, you’re in luck, because the fall season of VCU Cinematheque at the Grace Street Theater begins tonight! This weekly series, consisting of 35MM screenings of films both foreign and domestic, all of which are outside the mainstream, is free and open to the public. Taking place on Tuesday nights throughout the fall, the series begins this very evening with a showing of The Kid With A Bike, directed by Belgian duo the Dardenne Brothers. Also on the program for this fall: Turkish film Once Upon A Time In Anatolia, which was directed by Nuri Bilge Ceylan and was a co-winner of the Grand Prix at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival; Punishment Park, a 1971 British pseudo-documentary directed by Peter Watkins which was suppressed at the time of its release due to controversial political content, but has gained a cult-like reputation in the years since; Tropical Malady, a 2004 film by acclaimed Thai filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul; The Arc, a 1991 film by Dr. Robert Tregenza, who heads the Cinema Program at VCU; and more. Here’s the full schedule:
