Right now, Richmond is a hot bed of craft breweries and craft brew fanatics. And it’s not just Richmond it’s the whole state of Virginia.
From Devil’s Backbone in Nelson County, Starr Hill in Charlottesville to Port City in Alexandria just to name a few. Furthermore, the whole country has fallen into a craft beer craze. The number of breweries in the country has increased almost 50% from 2012 to 2014.
As for Richmond, following the opening of Hardywood in 2011, breweries have been breeding like rabbits. Center of the Universe opened in 2012, Strangeways in 2013, Ardent in 2014, etc. etc.
Going back in time, in 1994, Legend Brewing Company opened its doors here in Richmond. Who can argue that their classic Legend Brown Ale and Legend Lager are not still some of the most popular and delicious beers our city has to offer?
Legend Brewery has stood the test of time as a solid Richmond institution and is a grandfather to craft beer in our city.
Every year Legend has a big anniversary party but this year is special.
They’re turning 21…get it?
“We’re now legal,” laughs Dave Gott, Vice-President of Operations at Legend Brewing Company.

The 21st anniversary party will be held on Saturday April 11th from 2-9pm. It will take place on all of Legend’s property both the pub and the brewery, inside and outside.
Tickets for the event are $20 for those who are 21 and up, which includes a commemorative anniversary cup and two beer tickets. Additional beer tickets can be purchased (of course).
Tickets are available now online here. Tickets will also be available the day of the event but it may be better to buy advance to avoid the line. Designated drivers and ages 12-20 pay $8.It is also a family friendly event so families are encouraged to come. Kids under 12 get free admission.
The event will be chock full of beer, food, and live performances all day long.
“We’ve got a variety of music. The Mike Lucci band will be playing, The Cashmere Jungle Lords, Chamomile and Whiskey,” said Gott. “We’ve got some Bluegrass down in the brewery itself. We’ll have the Greater Richmond Pipes and Drums.”
A huge food buffet will be offered, barbecue grill-out style with a variety of other things. Food tickets are $12, all-you-can-eat. For kids ages 6-12 tickets are $6, and free for kids under the age of 12. As for the beer, Legend will have a large variety available. We all know everybody has their own taste in beer so fear not there will be a beer for every palette.
Weather permitting hopefully it will be a nice spring day to stand out on Legend’s riverside patio with some beer and enjoy the sun, views and live music.
Go and celebrate Legend’s 21st birthday. Legend is legal now!
