The folks at The Horn RVA, VCU’s student run local music blog, have compiled a sweet collection of Richmond bands into one massive free download and we couldn’t think of a better primer for those who want to get into local jams.

“Every year we have the pleasure of working with local musicians to put together this free compendium of local tunes, and we wanted to take a moment to thank everyone involved in the project for their hard work,” reads the post announcing Vol. 4, the nearly 30 track collection available here via bandcamp. The album is “not only a last hurrah for outgoing editor Mackenzie Werner and graduating former editor Craig Zirpolo,” it also hopes to be the “beginning of an exciting new chapter for the Horn under the guidance of managing editor Julie Rothey and assistant editor Tyler Hammel.” (Hammel is a current RVAMag/GayRVA intern so we wish him the best of luck!)

Check out the stream below, and head over to the Horn’s Bandcamp page to download the mix.

Every good music scene has a few rooms that become bigger than themselves. They rarely make headlines while they're open, but their importance becomes obvious when they disappear. For Harrisonburg, The Golden Pony was one of those places. After eleven years of hosting...
