1708 Gallery’s new summer program 10 x 10 kicked off today with its first week entitled, “People Via Plants.”

1708 Gallery’s new summer program 10 x 10 kicked off today with its first week entitled, “People Via Plants.”

The program, which will run until August, features 10 different artists and other local organizations coming in each week and sharing the space to create something unique and different.

Valerie Molnar and Matt Spahr are the artists in the gallery this week for the “People Via Plants” theme. The artists have been rehabilitating abandoned, mistreated and neglected plants. Some are returned to the original caretaker with instructions on future care.

Other plants are adopted by the artists or placed in the care of new custodians. The artists are using 1708 Gallery as a plant rehabilitation facility and botanical wellness center and the community is invited to bring unhealthy and neglected plants to the gallery for care.

“People Via Plants” will run until June 6.

Each Monday, the gallery will share a sneak peek video of that week’s participating artist or organization. Check out the video below to see the “People Via Plants” artists in action.

REVIEW | Ducking Awesome! WitchDuck Is Smart, Sharp, and Ruthless

I am rarely speechless, especially about theatre. Since I don’t get paid if I remain silent, I will make myself criticize a play I don’t feel I have any right to judge. Gotta pay the rent, and all that. I came into this performance of WitchDuck by Cadence and...

Richmond Had a General Strike and a First Friday on the Same Night

It was 72 and breezy. Unseasonably pleasant, almost chilly. VCU students were splayed out on picnic blankets in Monroe Park enjoying soft serve and the sunshine. Citronella and the smell of hot dogs wafted through the air from some folks having a cookout. “High...
