Chop Suey brings best selling authors to Hardywood Park Craft Brewery Sunday

The folks at Chop Suey Books and Hardywood Park Craft Brewery have teamed up to host a mess of best-selling authors

The folks at Chop Suey Books and Hardywood Park Craft Brewery have teamed up to host a mess of best-selling authors for a book reading with some tunes and, as always, some solid brews. The event is free and open to the public.

Authors Hampton Sides, Charles Slack, Bill Gifford, and Dean King will read from their respective stories starting around 4 pm. But most of the afternoon will be spent with each informally meeting and talking to fans and readers as well as signing their books.

De Rochonnet Delights Chocolatier, Boka Tako Truck and Slideways Mobile Bistro will be providing eats for attendees as well.

HAMPTON SIDES is best-known for his gripping non-fiction adventure stories set in war or depicting epic expeditions of discovery and exploration. He is the author of the bestselling histories Ghost Soldiers,Blood and Thunder, Hellhound On His Trail, and, most recently, In the Kingdom of Ice, which recounts the heroic polar voyage of the U.S.S.Jeannette during the Gilded Age. Hampton is editor-at-large for Outside and a frequent contributor to National Geographic and other magazines. His journalistic work, collected in numerous published anthologies, has been twice nominated for National Magazine Awards for feature writing.

CHARLES SLACK is the award-winning author of several books. His latest book, Liberty’s First Crisis: Adams, Jefferson and the Misfits Who Saved Free Speech, was published in March, 2015 by Grove Atlantic. Hetty, based on the life of Wall Street pioneer Hetty Green, won the 2005 Connecticut State Book Award for Biography and the Elle MagazineReader Prize for Biography. The New York Public Library named Noble Obsession one of the 25 best “Books to Remember” for 2002. Blue Fairways, an American journey based on a trip down the East Coast from Maine to Florida, one public golf course at a time, was a finalist for the United States Golf Association’s International Book Award. A graduate of Harvard, Slack was a newspaper reporter in Tennessee and Virginia before turning to writing and editing full-time. He works in New York City and lives in Connecticut with his family.

BILL GIFFORD is a contributing editor for Outside Magazine and has written extensively on science, sports, health and fitness forWired, Men’s Health, Men’s Journal, Slate, The New Republic, and Bicycling, among many other publications. He has been features editor of Men’s Journaland executive editor of Philadelphia Magazine, and his work has been anthologized in Best American Sportswriting. He is the author of “Spring Chicken: Stay Young Forever (Or Die Trying),” a personal investigation of the science of aging. He is also the author of “Ledyard: In Search of the First American Explorer,” a biography of John Ledyard, the 18th-century explorer, traveler, and bon vivant. An avid cyclist, skier, runner and eater, he lives in New York City and central Pennsylvania. His grandmother, Doris, is nearly 100 years old, and he intends to get there, too. Or die trying.

DEAN KING is an award winning author of ten books and dozens of articles in national magazines with a passion for historical adventure. King is the author of Skeletons on the Zahara (Little, Brown, 2004) and The Feud (Little, Brown 2013). King’s latest work, Unbound: A True Story of War, Love, and Survival, about the 30 courageous women who walked 4,000 miles across China with Mao Zedong, in 1934, was published in the spring of 2010. Of Unbound, Mary Baldwin College professor of Asian Studies Daniel A. Metraux wrote: “King, more than any other writer, recaptures the drama and flavor of this momentous time in Chinese history. . . . Unbound is a must read for any student of modern Chinese history and ranks with Red Star Over China as one of the classic narratives of the early days of the CCP.”
