Pop rock group Griff’s Room Band just released new single “Bad News,” and are scheduled to headline a show at The National this Saturday.

This will be a farewell show of sorts for now the group as guitarist Michael Cammarata will return for his second year at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk.

This is the second time the Williamsburg natives have played The National and they’re super stoked.

We played as part of a local showcase back in January, and it went really well so the folks from The National invited us back to headline,” said Cammarata. “We will be doing a mix of acoustic tracks and full band arrangements, with our friend Wave Langston joining us on the drums.”

David Adley,vocalist/violinist of GRB added he’s gearing up with some crazy antics as well.

“I’m definitely excited as well! I’d like to get a little crazy since it’s our last big show for a while; I’ve been working on my high kicks and splits,” he said.

Last time RVA chatted with the group they had just released a new track entitled “Wasted Time” June 8 on their SoundCloud.

The new track “Bad News” is catchy and fun, but similar to the earlier released song “Wasted Time” is also pretty personal.

“The new track is something I wrote back during my first year of medical school,” Cammarata said. “I had this really slow, very groovy, almost Bill Withers-inspired chorus, and nearly five months later Liam helped me finish the song when we wrote the verses and bridge together.”

“We picked up the tempo and added some call and response electric guitars and ultimately were very pleased with how it turned out. “It’s about falling for someone already in a relationship and later finding out that they’re newly single.”

The show at The National will be the fiddle heavy-band’s last show for now as a group, but they won’t be breaking up. Cammarata said he still has plans to write while in medical school and GRB will still play some shows in the fall.

“I anticipate continuing to write and sending things along to the guys for their input, especially since my favorite study break is picking up the guitar,” he said. We’ve got some fun things on the books for the fall, like a house show on Grace Street in September, and I’m sure I’ll be itching to play once I’m knee deep in PowerPoint Presentations.”

GRB told RVA Mag in June they were toying with the idea of recording a full length album this winter, but Adley said there are no definiive plans. However, it’s not completely off the table.

“We’ve got a good chunk of change saved up for when the time is right from all the gigging we’ve been doing,” Adley said. “I’m in charge of the band’s finances so I can make sure Michael and Liam don’t go crazy and blow it all on hair products.”

Griff’s Room Band headlines The National this Sat. Aug 8. Other Richmond bands Matt Sease Band, The Hoodoos, and Hye Tension will be the supporting acts. Tickets are $10 pre-sale and $12 at the door. Show starts at 7:30.
