DJ RNS x DJ Aztec – GIRLS <3 GLOW STICKS

by | Dec 20, 2010 | MUSIC

RNS hit us up a month ago and said he had something BIG to put out. Little did we know it would be a bumping 3 hour journey through clubland with almost every electro track you can think of. Check it out and the short interview below.

RVA: DJ RNS, this is an epic set with a ton of music. What was your thought process going into this thing?

RNS: Thanks man, I really appreciate that and I definitely appreciate you taking the time to talk to me about the new mixcd. Well, at first I was just going to make one mix, as a follow-up to my other dance mixes (Iregulectronika Disc 1 & 2), but as I began selecting tracks that I liked, my play list grew to over 100 songs. It was hard for me to narrow them down so I decided to use all of them and make a 3 hour dance mix. It’s cool because I made 2 different download options. You can download the full 3 hour mix with no breaks, perfect for a house party or working out at the gym. Or you can download the mix as a 3 disc set, with each track titled and separated.

RVA: You happy with how it turned out?

RNS: Yeah most definitely, I’m very pleased with how it turned out. I worked real hard on this mix to make it as perfect as possible. I mean of course there are a few things that I wish I could change here and there, but I’m going to always be my worst critic. As long as other people enjoy it I’m happy.

RVA: What tracks or artists are you currently feeling?

RNS; Currently I’ve been playing the new Kanye West album to death along with some 90’s Hip-Hop and R&B. I’ve also been listening to a lot of Dubstep like Skrillex, Datsik and Noisia just to name a few. I’m constantly on Soundcloud just checking out other DJ/Producers from all over the world and there’s a lot of good music out there. You just have to know where to find it.

RVA: You are producing a lot of music on top of everything else. Can you describe the feeling when you see people going crazy over one of your own remixes?

RNS: It’s crazy because I’ve been producing for a while, just more on the hip-hop side. It wasn’t until around this time last year when I decided to start making dance tracks, then around April of this year I dropped my first remix project “An ElektRemixed State of Mine”, which I think a lot of people slept on. The feeling I get when I see people go crazy over one of my tracks is one of those ultimate high type feelings, you know. I mean when you put as much love and passion into DJing and making music as I do, and then the crowd gives you that love back, its truly one of the greatest feelings.

RVA: Anyone in town you are trying to work with?

RNS: Man I’m down to work with any and everybody who’s doing dance music right now. I like what you guys are doing with the magazine, the RVALUTION parties and everything else you got going on. I also like what Audio Ammo and PLF are doing. There are a few other people out there that I see are doing big things for Richmond nightlife, which is a very good thing. I hope they keep it going.

RVA: Anyone you want to give props too?

RNS: Yeah, props to everybody in Richmond that’s making music, DJing, throwing parties, creating art and doing whatever they do. Much respect to you and I wish you success. Much love to my So Iregula Team that’s been holding me down since the beginning. And of course props to RVA Magazine for representing Richmond and giving artist an outlet to express their creative skills and talents. I salute and appreciate all of you.

RVA: Where do you go from here?

RNS: Well, right now I’m working with my younger sister, DJ Aztec, on some new dance mixtapes and eventually an EP which we hope to drop spring 2011, so be sure to look out for that. Other than that, I’m in the lab 24/7 so expect to hear more remixes and club bangers very soon.

In 2005, I created RVA Magazine, and I'm still at the helm as its publisher. From day one, it’s been about pushing the “RVA” identity, celebrating the raw creativity and grit of this city. Along the way, we’ve hosted events, published stacks of issues, and, most importantly, connected with a hell of a lot of remarkable people who make this place what it is.
