This past Friday, the Camel hosted a sold-out Deau Eyes show with supporting sets from Shera Shi and Catie Lausten, featuring a collaboration song composed by the 3 songstresses.
Deau Eyes has cemented herself as one of the most anticipated acts in the city, consistently playing tight, languid, and emotional sets wherever she pops up. She’s found a sweet spot in the indie/folk/country scene and seems to be leading a wave of intensely talented Richmond chanteuses.
Shera Shi brought an electric set of their growing song catalog soon to be released as recordings later this Fall, with some new songs mixed into rotation this Summer. With the progressive rock rhythm and soulful vocals of Britt O’Neill, they are quickly becoming one of our favorite Richmond acts. They will play next Aug 7. with FORAGER / Charles Owens / Shera Shi at Black Iris Gallery.
Catie Lausten is new to us, but we may just be late to the game. She has a swingy, twee sound that fits in the traditions of Norah Jones and Fiona Apple without cheating off their tests too much. From what I can gather, she’s kicking off a tour that’ll bring her up to NYC and Chicago this week. We wish her all the luck.
