Buddhist Monks’ 2,300-Mile ‘Walk for Peace’ Set to Pass Through Richmond

A group of Buddhist monks making a 2,300-mile trek across the United States for peace and compassion is expected to pass through Richmond this February as part of their “Walk for Peace” pilgrimage from Fort Worth, Texas, to Washington, D.C., a journey drawing attention from social media followers and local onlookers alike.

The walk, organized by a small contingent of monks accompanied by a dog named Aloka, began in late 2025 with the goal of spreading a message of unity, nonviolence and kindness. Along the way the group has drawn crowds in cities across the South and Mid-Atlantic and built a following online, where thousands track their progress with updates and photographs.

The “Walk for Peace” is rooted in Buddhist principles of compassion and mindfulness, with the monks taking each step as part of an extended call for greater understanding and connection in communities. Their slow, intentional pace and simple presence have been drawing attention and sparking conversation about peace at a time when many are seeking positive civic engagement.

Local police departments in cities the monks have passed through have generally emphasized their commitment to protecting free speech while encouraging anyone joining the route to do so safely and lawfully.

Residents interested in joining the Richmond segment of the walk or supporting the group can often find updates on their social channels as the monks continue toward the nation’s capital.
