Sweden’s The Sounds are returning to America once again, touching down at the 9:30 Club next month, and if you play your cards right, you could see them for free! Formed in 1999, The Sounds got their first big boost back around the same time that a bunch of other early-2000s Swedish groups (The Hives, International Noise Conspiracy, Sahara Hotnights, etc) were taking off. Setting themselves apart with the powerful voice and distinctive blonde mane of singer Maja Ivarsson, The Sounds drew comparisons to Blondie and Missing Persons, and grabbed attention with early singles like “Living In America.” Over a decade later, they’re still going strong, having released their fifth album, Weekend, last November. First single “Shake Shake Shake” is as catchy and fun a single as they’ve ever done, and should definitely inspire audiences to do what the title commands. Check out this live performance of the song, from a session filmed at Hurley Recordings:

And once you’ve watched it, make sure you’re at the 9:30 Club on Saturday, April 12 to catch a full set by The Sounds, live and in glorious technicolor!
