Thought I would pass on the fact that Red Bull Illume is happening again this year. If you are a photographer of “action sports” (hate that term) ie BMX, skate, ski etc. then you should check out their D O P E site and submit something. Bring your “A” game, the work on here looks really good.

Visit www.redbullillume.com for more details. Also, check out the Facebook fanpage and the Flickr gallery.

Also, the RVA rep for Red Bull is always looking for talented photographers – hit him up at geoff.gray@us.redbull.com.

Red Bull Illume is back for 2010!

The world’s biggest action and adventure sports photography contest returns for a second enlightening edition.
The inaugural edition of Red Bull Illume 2007 was the first-ever international photography competition of its kind and it was a spectacular success. Over 2000 international photographers submitted a staggering number of images and were judged by a panel of renowned photo editors and experts. The result was the most dramatic compilation of action and adventure sports images ever assembled.

The 2010 edition of Red Bull Illume is predicted to be even bigger.

Again the contest is focusing on finding the world’s most outstanding and premium adventure sports images, illuminating the passion, thrilling lifestyle and culture behind these shots and honoring the people who brave the world’s harshest terrains to get them.

The submission phase will be open from October 1, 2009 until January 31, 2010. Amateur and professional photographers are invited to enter their best photos via the official website www.redbullillume.com.

The ten categories for the 2010 Image Quest are culture, playground, energy, spirit, close up, wings, sequence, new creativity, experimental and illumination.

The winners, chosen by a selected jury of experts, will be announced in May 2010.

In 2005, I created RVA Magazine, and I'm still at the helm as its publisher. From day one, it’s been about pushing the “RVA” identity, celebrating the raw creativity and grit of this city. Along the way, we’ve hosted events, published stacks of issues, and, most importantly, connected with a hell of a lot of remarkable people who make this place what it is.
