by | Nov 16, 2016 | ART

This weekend, one of the best and largest art shows in RVA will take over the Science Museum of Virginia and give folks a chance to see some unique, local and regional works in an intimate setting.

With more than 60 artists offering their handmade wears, the VisArts Crafts + Design show is a great chance to get ahead on your holiday shopping or just see some art not often featured in the area. But because we’re RVAMag, we’ve spotlighted five local artist who stand out among the rest.

You can snag tickets to the event here, it runs all weekend (11/18-20) and different ticket levels offer different options for art lovers of any level.:

Sean Donlon – hand blown glass

A VCU Alum, Donlon traveled to Germany to develop intricate glass melting techniques used glass eye prosthetics. His works now, as show off by Quirk Gallery below, feature a mix of function and display.

Andrea Donnelly – wearable art

We’ve written about Donnelly and her impressive “woven gallery work” before. Her hand crafted, award-winning “wearable art” offers seasonal warmth or shade as well as style and comfort.

Daniel Rickey – wood furniture

Rickey’s handcrafted, beautiful woodworking skills are seemingly unmatched. If you’re looking for a unique piece for your home or office you’re sure to find some incredibly options from this local creator.

Caitie Sellers – metalwork

This VCU craft/material grad spent her post-college years near Xela, Guatemala teaching jewelry-making lessons to women in the isolated region. She since traveled the US further developing her craft to create something wearable or worthy of display.

Cathy Vaughn – functional metals

Vaughn’s specialty as of late has been molding copper into usable pieces for your home or otherwise. This has manifested in pieces from napkin holders to bed frames. No matter your interest, her attention to detail is exquisite and will offer a flair of rustic color to any setting.
