Jammie Jones greeted me at the door of her brand new vintage clothing shop, Pinup-ish.

Jammie Jones greeted me at the door of her brand new vintage clothing shop, Pinup-ish. With her red lipstick, pearls, and polka dot dress she looks like she has just stepped out of a hipper version of the 1950’s.

Her look is curated and beautiful, and she wants the rest of Richmond to look just as great.

Jones’s dream of opening a vintage clothing store that specialized in pinup-attire started years ago.

”I slowly planned for it as far as how I wanted the store to look and what feeling I wanted you to have in the store,” she said. “It was years of work but it felt like it just happened in three months.”

Jones has been gathering her collection for a long time now, anything she saw that fit the bill she bought. Now she has enough to beautify the general population.

The store is small but bright with unique ensembles hang from four or five long racks and a shoe rack pressed up against the wall. The sizes run from double 0 to 24; in Jones’ eyes, any woman of any size can be a pinup girl.

“The idea of the store is to provide quality clothing that really makes a woman feel feminine because we are very feminine creatures,” she said.

Jones stressed the importance of your inner pinup. She believes there are different types of pinups, the key is finding the one that suits you best and having fun with it.

Going for a jog? Jones wants your to throw on some red lipstick. It never hurts to look good.

A bonus is that it won’t cost you an arm and a leg to unlock your inner pinup. You can get an entire outfit, a dress, shoes, and accessories for around 50 bucks.Plus if you come in wearing red lipstick or take a photo in the store and share it on social media you immediately receive a ten percent discount.

Jones’s ultimate goal for Pinup-ish is for it to provide a sense of community. She hopes, in the future, to provide classes, style consultations, and have a community board where people can announce their events.

So far she is doing a great with an approachable store that makes you feel welcomed, not judged, when you arrive.

If you want to find your inner pinup girl find Pinup-ish on 10 North 18th Street right here in RVA. Find Pinup-ish on facebook for more information on hours and specials.
