Ladies and gentlemen, the Richmond Mural Project is one step closer to being a reality. A sequel to Art Whino‘s 2012 G40 Mural Project, which brought dozens of new murals to RVA throughout April of last year, this new mural project hopes bring us 20 new murals from 10 different internationally known artists during the month of July 2013.
From local talent like Jesse Smith to the best large-format artists out of Europe, Australia, North and South America, many different cities, countries, and continents will be represented right here on the walls of RVA!
But to make this project a reality, Art Whino needs your help. This is why they’ve launched a Kickstarter in order to raise the necessary funds to do the Richmond Mural Project on the massive level that it deserves! With funding for five muralists already secured, the Kickstarter hopes to raise the funds to reach, and perhaps even surpass, the goal of bringing in 10 total artists to RVA this summer. If the current goal is reached, Richmond will feature over 40 large-scale murals by summer’s end, making it one of the top destinations for street art in the entire country. And the Richmond Mural Project doesn’t intend to stop there–this year’s event is just the first step in a five-year plan that hopes to result in over 100 murals brightening the streets of our river city. It’s just another way in which RVA intends to grow into one of the main artistic destination cities in the United States, and perhaps even the world!
However, it has to start somewhere–and your pledge to the 2013 Richmond Mural Project Kickstarter fund is the first step towards making all of this a reality. With a variety of rewards available, making contributions worthwhile for everyone from struggling local art students to the biggest businesses in town, this is a project that will not only brighten up your summer but benefit all of the citizens of RVA. Whether it’s original art by one of the many talented artists involved in the mural project this year (available for pledges of as little as $50) or getting a mural painted on the wall of a building you own (the top-tier reward, available for a pledge of $4000 or more), there’s a totally amazing reward available to fit your needs.
Citizens of Richmond (and beyond) have until Wednesday, July 10 to make a pledge to the 2013 Richmond Mural Project Kickstarter fund. The campaign has a good ways to go to reach its goal, and it can’t do it without you. So why not pitch in right now?
