Before “Sorry to Bother You,” Boots Riley Was Arrested on Unconstitutional Charge in Norfolk

Raymond “Boots” Riley, the rapper, filmmaker, and communist activist, made his directorial debut this month with “Sorry to Bother You,” but a decade before, he was removed from a stage and arrested in Norfolk. His crime, if you can believe it, was using an “embellishment of the F-word” when he introduced members of Coup.
