Summer is officially here and that means it’s the season for pool parties, barbecues and traffic stop missed connections. Seriously, there are people who think they’ve seen the love of their lives at a red light. Afterall, love at first sight is one thing, love at half of a first sight is another.

Hear our this week’s Missed Connections:

Enthused – m4w (field)

You looked so good in that dress, and smelled so much better. I have seen you before and I am glad you did not hug me too tight or you would have been able to tell how happy I was to see you.

Reading poetry at coffee shop – m4w

We were sitting near each other, and you were reading an anthology of poetry. I meant to say something–I tried to–but you were too present in your cosmic existence, too grand a figure for my brain and mouth to comprehend, even though I tried. I hope you don’t remember me stuttering about poetry, I hope you’ve forgotten all about me. I hope I am not making you into some mythical figure and creating a memory that I cannot fairly expect you to live up to. We are both just humans after all, and I was just another corporeality sitting under the same roof. But your entity is on my mind all the time. I was not meant to be your poet, I was not meant to be anything to you. We both should carry on, but the coffee shop seems empty without you, a barren public space with no souls to haunt it. I want to read those same words you were reading. I will forget you eventually but not if you don’t let me.

The muse of my work life – m4w (Chester)

We work in the same building. We have different shifts but I see you at least 3 times a week. At first I didn’t know what to think of you, you were quiet, so I didn’t think much of you at all but you just being another body count there, but now you’re everywhere and the most charismatic person I have ever met. (Don’t get me wrong, you were extremely intimidating to approach at first until I realized how easy it is to talk to you) My work life came to a boring plateau until your gorgeous smile motivated me to show up to work everyday. The best time of my week is seeing you and having those 2 to 5 minute conversations with you. You make me laugh the hardest and your smile completes me. I’m still to nervous to tell you exactly who I am but I just want you to know that you are my muse. Hints: you are: blond, fit, and have the most insane power walk I have ever seen. Hope that helps.

Re: Wish you were here – m4w

I’ve given you too many chances. You don’t want me “here”, you only want to be comforted when you feel down. I’m tired of your games.
There’s a part of me that will always love you, but you’ll be alone on that tandem bike due to your own choices.
Happy birthday.

Thank you to every man… – w4m (Tri Cities)
Thank you to ever man I’ve ever let get close to me, for making me feel unattractive and worthless. Thank you for destroying my soul and turning me into the bitter sad, lonely woman that I am today. Thank you for acting like you cared, and then trying to destroy me from the inside out. I appreciate it!

Hello
You may not ever read this but you”re white and was pushing your grocery cart with a black dark skin baby. I was so impressed with that and most of all impressed with you!
You’re unbelievable gorgeous, tall & very amazing. I was the tall dark skin guy in the produce section. You reached over me and got some blackberries too. If by chance you read this please respond as I would like to know you better. Thanks

Barcode Sunday Night Karaoke, 6/19 around 10pm – m4m (Grace St.)

When I walked in you were sitting next to a friend of mine, you were with two of your friends who were visiting from out of the country… they were attending a big event this weekend for your son. You and my friend shared the same name. I noticed you and was immediately attracted as soon as I walked up… I thought you were very handsome, preppy too!!! You introduced yourself, our names sound alike, only have 3 letters and just the first letter is different. We both live in the West End. I kinda got the feeling you might be interested as well? I wish I had given you my number when I realized you were paying your tab and getting ready to leave. When you left we both told each other we hopped we see each other again, I hope we do!!! Tell me something so I know it’s you, your name, my name or the name of the button down you were wearing. I hope you see this!!!

There’s a Murder Coming to Richmond, and You’re Stuck on the Train

Virginia Repertory Theatre is kicking off its new season the way any sensible theatre should: with a train, a murder, and a detective who’s just trying to make sense of it all. Murder on the Orient Express is Agatha Christie’s great reminder that people are both awful...

Confederate Nostalgia, Black Voices: The Paradox of Polk Miller

The Felon Who Built Scott’s Addition
