Prolific stand-up comedian Kurt Braunohler, clearly a fan of local legacy Avail, has a personal reason to visit Richmond on his latest tour: The Lip Balm Tour.
His stop will be at Strange Matter this weekend on September 13th. This will be his debut performance in RVA.
“There’s a thing about smaller cities, they do not have a huge reputation outside the limits,” Braunohler said. “But it is always nice to discover a certain type of character that each city bestows.”
The Lip Balm Tour, in which Braunohler aims to tour a slew of small, yet lively cities, follows a string of tours performed by comedian who rarely slows down.
More recently (and most notably) Braunohler performed his Roustabout Tour in which, by jet ski, he toured cities from Chicago down to New Orleans in hopes of fundraising enough money to send 500 goats and 1,000 chickens to families of need in Africa for Heifer International.
The Roustabout series was also filmed and aired as a web series on Comedy Central. Braunohler recently filmed a pilot for the network as well.
Having performed at huge events such as Bonnaroo, SXSW, and Outside Lands, Braunohler’s worldwide and nationwide experience with stand-up comedy has earned him quite the acclaim.
With appearances on CONAN, The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, and The Late Night Show with Seth Meyers, it would be absurd to miss Braunohler’s blunt and whip-smart comedy that has attracted so many big names.
Braunohler has also worked with numerous side projects that pair well with his eccentricity.
This list includes hit TV Shows Bob’ Burgers, The New Girl, Chelsea Lately, and other Comedy Central programs that draw thousands and thousands of viewers.
Making a big name for himself through his witty talent, Braunohler has also has a released album titled “How do I Land?” which topped charts in 2013.
“I enjoy jokes, and the idea of inserting absurd philosophy into the lives of strangers” Braunohler said with a professional composure unlike someone who has jet skied as much as he has. “It’s gonna be a good show all about trust. Trust me.”
As eclectic as his line of work, Kurt Braunohler himself will be performing absurdity at his Richmond debut at Strange Matter this weekend on September 13th.
