Stay Sweet Records, who has been bringing you the excellent Stay Sweet Fest every spring for the past three years, presents a special Halloween edition: Stay Spooky Fest, coming to The Camel on Sunday, October 27! This all-day spooktacular features a dozen of the best pop-punk, emo, and hardcore bands active in the scene today.Headlining the day will be Scranton, PA’s favorite sons, The Menzingers, who received quite a bit of acclaim for their third album, 2012’s On The Impossible Past. Starting from more of a pop-punk template, the group has integrated moodier melodic touches into their more recent music, as can be seen in the video for “Nice Things,” from On The Impossible Past:

Baltimore post-hardcore group Pianos Become The Teeth are also on the bill. Their harsh, powerful, yet emotionally-driven sound is well represented on their most recent album, 2011’s The Lack Long After, as well as on their recent split with California’s Touche Amore. Their passionate live performances are a highlight of any show they play, as can be seen on this video from Bled Fest earlier this year:

Connecticut emo band The World Is A Beautiful Place And I Am No Longer Afraid To Die not only named themselves after a compound sentence but have been generating a lot of buzz recently with their debut LP (after years of EPs and splits), Whenever, If Ever. Incorporating such instruments as piano and cello into their 8-piece lineup, they bring a touch of orchestral grandeur to their emo sound, while retaining the emotional intensity you’d expect from a band with a name like that. Check out the psychedelic and emotional headtrip that is their video for “Portrait Of A Tree That Doesn’t Look Okay”:

Other highlights of the day will include Diamond Youth, an alt-rock group featuring members from Baltimore, Chicago, and Richmond; grindcore supergroup United Nations, who feature members of Thursday and Glassjaw; Michigan pop-punkers The Swellers; and 90s-style grunge-rockers Daylight. Plus, Candy Hearts will be bringing us their Fastbacks/Muffs-style female-fronted pop punk, and I for one couldn’t be more stoked. Check out their video for “Bad Idea,” from latest album The Best Ways To Disappear:

Rounding out the bill will be New York punk rockers Timeshares, New Jersey emo band Gates, Pennsylvania melodic punk rockers Placeholder, and hard-charging Connecticut punks Wolves At Bay starting it all off. It’s a full day of great music, and with advance ticket prices set at only $20, Stay Spooky Fest would be a bargain no matter what time of year it took place. Make no mistake–costumes are encouraged! In fact, there will be a costume contest held over the course of the day, with winners announced before the Menzingers set. For more details, check out the facebook event page.

This is a great way to combine an excellent day of live music and one of the best holidays of the year–plus, imagine how awesome it’ll look to see kids in vampire and zombie makeup stagediving during Pianos Become The Teeth! Cleanup should also be a snap, too, considering you will probably sweat off all your makeup while you’re dancing.

Stay Spooky Fest starts at 1:30 PM on Sunday, October 27. It’s all going down at The Camel, located at 1621 W. Broad St. Get your tickets now by going to http://stayspookyfest-eorg.eventbrite.com/
