We have a bunch of stuff together for Halloween Night that we are excited about. It’s on a Thursday this year and that means everyone is going to be out. So here a few great options for spending your time out on All Hallow’s Eve!

Right out the gate, you should prepare yourself for a block party in Carytown–it’s a Portrait House + Don’t Look Back + New York Deli triple header. An 80s dance party at Portrait House with Bobby LaBeat, plus SCARY-OKE Karaoke at New York Deli, and Zombie Photo Booth and Spooky Tacos at DLB! $3 mug specials at all 3 locations! $100 costume contests at all 3 spots! Add a sprinkle of the unexpected and you got a full on raging block party.

At the same time, a little cozier but just as raging, will be the 4th Annual Weezie-Ween joint at Weezie’s Kitchen, guided deep into the night by none other than DJ Slugworth! Expect it to be packed and banging all night and bring your costume game and win some cash for your entertainment expenses.

Finally, we are super hyped on what could go down as the best show of the year: J Roddy Walston & The Business with The Trillions and Sports Bar at Strange Matter! Seriously, this whole lineup rocks, and seeing them on Halloween night will blow you away! Sweat, costumed freaks, drunken dancing sounds like a good time to us.

In 2005, I created RVA Magazine, and I'm still at the helm as its publisher. From day one, it’s been about pushing the “RVA” identity, celebrating the raw creativity and grit of this city. Along the way, we’ve hosted events, published stacks of issues, and, most importantly, connected with a hell of a lot of remarkable people who make this place what it is. Review | Get In My Boca! What’s Happening at the Triangle?

Every time I go to the Aldi on Arthur Ashe at Broad St., En Su Boca tries to seduce me with its tequila and tacos perfume. It doesn’t work all the time, but I feel the pull when I’m browsing the nonsense in Aldi’s middle aisle. I once bought sweatpants there. I’m not...
