The tallies are in, all the votes have been counted, and RVA’s own Mekong Restaurant
has been crowned the champ one more time.

Beating out over 5,000 competitors for the title, Mekong, with 50 taps and 200 different bottled beers, stood out amongst the crowd. 37,000 votes were cast, but I think we all would have known Mekong to be the best even if they hadn’t won.

Here’s what we ran on this amazing beer garden when they won our “Best of RVA” poll last fall:

While primarily operating as a Vietnamese restaurant (and a damn good one, at that), everyone in RVA knows that “Mekong is for beer lovers.” Providing an extensive collection of craft beers that is unrivaled in Richmond, owner An Bui’s passion for hops and barley is apparent to all who set foot in the bar area at Mekong, where the friendly atmosphere makes everyone feel like family. Its recognition as the best beer bar in America by craftbeer.com only proves that Richmonders are right to single out Mekong as the place to be for those who love beer.

Check out Mekong at 6004 W. Broad St., Richmond, Virginia 23230, or online here.

Confederate Nostalgia, Black Voices: The Paradox of Polk Miller

Over a century ago, engineers from the Edison Company hauled their bulky recording equipment from New Jersey to Richmond, Virginia. In 1909, they captured one of the first interracial recording sessions in American history: Polk Miller, a white Confederate veteran...

The Felon Who Built Scott’s Addition

Before the beer taps and condos, before the buzzwords about ‘revitalization,’ Scott’s Addition’s future passed through the hands of a single man: Justin Glynn French. A convicted felon whose empire collapsed in scandal, he set the stage, even if unintentionally, for...

It’s Still Our City | Ep. 13 Stooping RVA

"The joy of finding a perfectly reusable gem on a sidewalk, in an alley, or on a porch stoop is one of the perks of living in such close proximity in the city of Richmond. The FOMO of not making it on your bike in time for a taxidermy dolphin or a surprisingly decent...
