We recently stumbled on a new-ish Instagram account @RareRichmond that captures Richmond, VA, in all its gritty, goofy  and cringey glory. We reached out for a quick Q&A, though the person behind the account prefers to stay anonymous, here’s what they had to say:

Where did the idea come from?
My experiences growing up in Richmond.

How would you describe yourself?
Rare.

What draws you to the content you post?
I love Richmond and learning about our history and culture.

Why do you think your account has taken off?
People relate to it. My content evokes emotion and nostalgia.

What types of posts perform the best?
Controversy and negativity tend to get attention, but I’m focused on spreading positivity.

Do you ever find content you just know will resonate?
Richmond’s culture and history are always worth sharing.

How much time do you spend on this daily?
It’s continuous—knowledge is infinite.
