WRIR’s MONSTER MASHQUERADE!
If a huge hangar party is not your speed, check out this more intimate gathering to benefit WRIR, taking place at The Camel on Friday night. The 6th Annual WRIR Monster Mashquerade features music from Virginia talents Mirror Kisses, 6 Track Amateur, Those Manic Seas, and The Shangri-Lords, who will be bringing you all the classic sounds of Motown! WRIR DJs keep the music going between sets, and there will be prizes for best costume and best mask, so dress to the nines and be ready to dance!

Saturday, October 26: ZOMBIE WALK & ZOMBIE DISCO!
Saturday kicks off bright and early with the 9th Annual Carytown Zombie Walk, rampaging through the streets of Carytown beginning at 1 PM! Afterwards, don’t wash off that zombie makeup, because EQ Produktions presents a Zombie Disco at The Canal Club featuring Orchard Lounge. It’s the Zombie Disco Hall-OL-ween, and those who show up in full zombie costume before 9 PM are admitted free!

Sunday, October 27: STAY SPOOKY FEST
Stay Sweet Records presents a special Halloween edition of their annual springtime festival. Stay Spooky Fest is a one-day affair featuring some of the best pop-punk, emo, and hardcore bands in the country, including The Menzingers, Pianos Become The Teeth, The World Is A Beautiful Place And I Am No Longer Afraid To Die, and many more! This full day of great music begins at 1:30 and goes on until long past the sun sets, so wear your Halloween costume and stagedive in zombie makeup! We’re into it.

Monday, October 28: HALLOW-BEER!
America’s best beer bar carries on its fine tradition of bringing beer to the spooky costumed masses on Halloween with Mekong’s 5th Annual Hallow-Beer! Mekong Xpress will be kicking out the funky jams onstage, An and the gang will be pouring the high quality craft beers behind the bar, and spooky monsters will be haunting the building throughout the evening. Come join them for a great RVA Halloweek tradition!

Tuesday, October 29th: KOSTUME KARAOKE!
Come out for karaoke Sticky Rice style! Expect over the top songs sung by people that are way out of tune!

Wednesday, October 30: ROBOTS VS MONSTERS!
Starlite Dining And Lounge presents a new twist on the same old costume party, with a battle royale between the cutting edge technology of robots and the malevolent ancient evil of monsters! Come join the battle for whichever side you prefer–or just come enjoy the great food and drinks and dance the night away at Starlite!

Thursday, October 31: HALLOWEEN TRIPLE-HEADER!
This is it–the night of nights. And oh, what many things we have planned! Start out with the Triangle Of Terror, a three-venue block party happening simultaneously at Portrait House, Don’t Look Back, and New York Deli! Then stroll a few blocks through Carytown to Weezie’s Kitchen for the 4th Annual Weezie-Ween! And of course, don’t forget Strange Matter, where a raging show will be taking place, headlined by J. Roddy Walston And The Business and featuring The Trillions and Sports Bar! It’s the last night of Halloweek, so you better make it count–and you’ll have plenty of opportunities to do so.

We’ll have more Halloweek details as the time draws closer, so keep an eye on the official 2013 Halloweek Party Guide, which you can find at rvamag.com/halloweek. And be sure to use the official Halloweek hashtag on Instagram: #HALLOWEEKRVA

There’s a Murder Coming to Richmond, and You’re Stuck on the Train

Virginia Repertory Theatre is kicking off its new season the way any sensible theatre should: with a train, a murder, and a detective who’s just trying to make sense of it all. Murder on the Orient Express is Agatha Christie’s great reminder that people are both awful...

"The joy of finding a perfectly reusable gem on a sidewalk, in an alley, or on a porch stoop is one of the perks of living in such close proximity in the city of Richmond. The FOMO of not making it on your bike in time for a taxidermy dolphin or a surprisingly decent...
