Proverbial has been regularly packing out venues around the city for years now, and tonight marks the first opportunity this seven-piece funk/rock band will have to do the same for Richmond’s newest premier music venue, On The Rox. Joining them to share in the entertainment will be well known Charlottesville rockers The Kings Of Belmont, on their way to take stage at Floyd Fest in Floyd, VA on July 26th.

Joining them to share in the entertainment will be well known Charlottesville rockers The Kings Of Belmont, on their way to take stage at Floyd Fest in Floyd, VA on July 26th.
It’s not only talent that makes Proverbial an audible force worth seeing again and again, but the drive of passion propelling the often poignant and inspirational words of Michael Ketter. Backed by Phil Walker on keys, Michael’s verses are powerful alone, but Proverbial is at its absolute vocal best when the duo staggers their contributions in asymmetrical unison. The credit should not be lost on only those two alone. The secret to their Proverbial success thus far is in the complete formulation on all seven members and their expertise with each instrument. I could easily go on a tangent about how good Scott Gerry (Bass), Ryan Harlowe (Drums), Thomas Whitesell (Saxaphone/Rhymes), Stephen Holicky (Guitar), and Kevin Condrey (Percussion) truly are. But I will spare you the details in lieu of the future opportunity to cover them in a proper article that may finally due them the justice deserved here on a local level.
Much like Proverbial, The Kings Of Belmont have been slamming venues to capacity since almost immediately after their conception, and beyond. It’s only fitting that a band with a proven track record like KOB would be performing at such a prestigious Virginia event like Floyd Fest. But tonight’s show at On The Rox should prove to be more than just a fun-filled night of drinks, dancing, and mayhem. Indeed, it will be musical history in the making. It’s an opportunity for RVA to witness two hardworking, talented and deserving acts, coming together under a single roof, breaking musical bread in what might prove to be one of the most successful gigging partnerships in central Virginia’s recent history.
Lastly, tonight is guaranteed to be an awesome party. If you’ve never seen Proverbial, The Kings Of Belmont, and/or experienced live music at On The Rox (located at 119 N. 18th St, in Shockoe Bottom), than you likely have no idea, but this will be the most interesting musical experience a Richmond native might be afforded this entire weekend – or maybe this month, or possibly even all summer. The cover is $5 and the doors open at 9pm sharp.
