WEDNESDAY at The Republic: Ghost Owls w/ The Dream Machine

by | Apr 10, 2012 | COMMUNITY

In the past few months, Wednesday nights at The Republic (2053 W Broad St) have become a staple mid-week release. Cheap drinks, consistently impressive bands, and, of course, an entire staff of gorgeous bartenders are all compelling reasons to get off your ass and enjoy a nice weeknight jaunt. Last week we saw The Dream Machine at their high-energy, booze injected rock routine, debuting their solid new drummer who made a huge impression his second time playing with the band. These guys have a blast when they play and you can feel it, which is why they make for a felicitous weekly act.

Later on it was Apache Radio with a set of rich, heavy and puzzlingly modern sounding rock songs. Their frontman performs with a confidence you don’t often see, and a tightly-knit relationship between drums and guitars offers a pulsing vein of rock I can’t help but be attracted to. Seek these guys out and give them a listen. Typically, things get a bit hazy towards the end of a Wednesday night, and soon thereafter I proceeded to chase my roommate home at a near sprint while laughing maniacally between asphalt wipeouts. Thanks Republic, it’s always a good time.

Coming up this Wednesday, The Dream Machine will be at their weekly best, heating up the crowd for the refreshingly folky Ghost Owls, who recently released their eponymous debut album. These guys have a lot to offer, including a chimey, well-placed mandolin, warm darting guitar solos, and colorfully fashioned lyrics delivered in multiple-part harmonies. It looks to be another memorable night at The Republic this Wednesday, with bands gearing up around 10pm. So come out and be a part of it.

There’s a Murder Coming to Richmond, and You’re Stuck on the Train

The Felon Who Built Scott’s Addition
