#DOWNTOWNRVA: Meet Master Stylist Charisse Robinson

by | Oct 18, 2023 | DOWNTOWN RVA, PHOTOGRAPHY, RICHMOND NEWS

We dispatched our hometown photographer, CJ Payne, to the heart of the city to capture a snapshot and engage in some casual conversation. Consider it our local twist on the acclaimed Humans of New York series that we hold in high regard. Our aim is to foster a sense of community and encourage our readers to deepen their connections with their neighbors.

“My name is Charisse and I’m a master stylist. I started out when I was 15 or 16, and it started out great. I just went from there. So, I’ve been in business now for about 47 years. I’m originally from North Carolina, but I’ve spent all my adult life here.”

“The difference I can make [as a master stylist]. You know, I get some people who come in looking rough, and I like that transformation part of it. I also enjoy getting to know different people. I’ve developed quite a few friendships, both inside and outside the salon. Being located downtown, I’m always out front, and I meet a lot of people walking by. I love it.”

“Richmond has its ups and downs. It’s okay. I’m starting to wonder about the city as it’s been going through a lot of changes. It has become extremely turbulent lately, and I don’t know what the cause is or how to rectify it. Richmond is becoming like Chicago to me because every day it’s crime, crime, crime, and killings.”
