Photos | Street Scenes from the 2024 Downtown Richmond Christmas Parade

by | Dec 9, 2024 | COMMUNITY, CULTURE, DOWNTOWN RVA, PHOTOGRAPHY

For Richmonders, the Dominion Energy Christmas Parade is the unofficial kickoff to the holiday season—part spectacle, part tradition, and always a snapshot of the city as it really is.

Once called Thalhimers’ Toy Parade back in the ‘50s, it disappeared for 15 years before the Richmond Jaycees brought it back. Ukrop’s carried the torch for a while, until Dominion Energy saved it in 2010.

And that time Paul Simon, Steve Martin, and Chevy Chase hijacked the parade in 1991 to film a music video.

And that time Rudolph didn’t make it.
