Kids In The Hall’s Dave Foley Was at GalaxyCon 2023!

Whether it’s Kids in the Hall, Newsradio, A Bug’s Life, or one of the many other things he has been in and known for, fans of legendary comedian and comic actor Dave Foley were ecstatic to welcome him to his first visit to Richmond as part of GalaxyCon 2023‘s largest show to date. Now before we get into that — here are a few of our favourite Dave Foley comedy sketches from KITH!

Not only was GalaxyCon Richmond’s 2023 show the largest so far for the popular convention’s Richmond stop, but it also featured many new faces, including Dave Foley, among returning favorites. Most well-known for being a founding member of the groundbreaking and legendary Canadian sketch troupe Kids in the Hall, Foley and the rest of the Kids (Mark McKinney, Bruce McCulloch, Scott Thompson, and Kevin McDonald) finally released a new season of the series 27 years after the fifth season finale in the spring of last year.

While Foley said that there most likely wouldn’t be any more seasons of the show, they would be open to doing more projects together, possibly with Amazon. In addition to future projects, he added that they were currently discussing a new tour – maybe with a Richmond date?

“We’re mostly talking about it and trying to figure out a time in our schedule that we can all do it,” said Foley. “But yes, it’s something the troupe wants to do, maybe sometime closer to the fall we can put something together. We’re all going to go do the Calgary Comic Con, so that will give us a chance to talk about it more.”

Aside from visiting with fans at his own booth at the convention and greeting fans during photo op times, Foley also had a well-attended Q&A panel on Saturday of the event where fans asked him questions about his work, and he was happy to share stories from the Kids, favorite Newsradio memories, and observations from filming Fargo (apparently they didn’t film far from the set of The Last of Us, which I’m excited to say we bonded over for a few minutes as well). The award for the best moment from the Q&A is a hard tie between offering advice about teaching improv to children for a librarian excited to continue the art to the next generation and a visit from arguably the best Chicken Lady cosplayer I’ve ever seen.

Dave, please call her mom back. It’s been a while.

Foley himself was excited to meet his fans, especially the Gen X and Millennials of the room who grew up with them, and is glad “most of us aren’t in prison [and that they] weren’t too corrupting of an influence,” he added, laughing. He also expressed excitement for the newest generation of fans who discovered them through the new season released last year.

“It’s interesting because so many people your age grew up with parents who made them watch the show,” said Foley. “It’s like now with the reboot we’re sort of moving into a third generation of fans, which is great.”

A little over a year ago, Foley started doing the fan expo and con circuit, with the first one being in Calgary, and so far has really enjoyed the experience. He admits that he’s a big fan himself and was excited to meet folks that weekend as well. Among those on his list include Doctor Who and Torchwood stars David Tennant and John Barrowman.

“I’m a huge fan of David Tennant and John Barrowman because I love Doctor Who and Torchwood,” said Foley. “Those are two of my favorite shows, so I’m excited about that. They’re two people I haven’t met before.”

Fret not, fans, if you missed him at this year’s Richmond GalaxyCon. Dave Foley will return to GalaxyCon this summer a few hours south in Raleigh, North Carolina, from July 27 through 30th at the Raleigh Convention Center.
