Oscar-Winning Documentary ‘No Other Land’ Screens at The Byrd Theatre

by | Mar 27, 2025 | FILM & TV

Another screening of No Other Land—an Oscar-winning documentary directed by both Palestinian and Israeli filmmakers—is set for Friday, March 28, at 4 p.m. at The Byrd Theatre. Recently winning for Best Documentary Feature at the 97th Academy Awards, the film has been described by its directors as “an act of resistance on the path to justice during the ongoing conflict in [Gaza].”

The story centers on Basel Adra, a young Palestinian activist who has spent his life resisting the forced displacement of his community in Masafer Yatta, a region of the West Bank. As Israeli forces demolish homes to clear land for a military firing zone, Basel documents the destruction of his homeland. Along the way, he forms an unlikely friendship with Yuval, a Jewish Israeli journalist. Their bond—built on shared resistance—becomes strained by the stark contrast in their lived realities: Basel lives under constant threat and oppression, while Yuval enjoys the freedoms of Israeli citizenship.

Despite receiving major recognition, including awards from the Berlin International Film Festival, the Gotham Awards, and the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, No Other Land has yet to secure a U.S. distributor or streaming deal. Its limited theatrical run means this screening may be one of the few opportunities to see the film on the big screen.
