Tapped: Lickinghole Creek Heir Apparent release, Triple Crossing DIPA releases, & NYE brewery parties

What’s happening craft beer lovers of RVA?! Welcome to this week’s “Tapped,” RVA Magazine’s go to weekly craft beer column where you can find all your craft beer-related events, releases, festivals and all the booze news your little hearts desire.

Our cup is overflowing with news this week, but first head over here to check out what awesome brews were released in Richmond last weekend.

We’ve got new beer releases, special holiday and seasonal brews, and special events for you to check out before we head into 2017! (Lawdd help us all) So hold on to your mugs because we’re getting ready to tap this thing!

Triple Crossing’s Fulton location, which just recently opened at 5203 Hatcher St., will release two DIPAs this weekend. Satiate your hop fix just before 2017 hits with two DIPAs canned for the first time ever here at our Fulton location, the Nectar and Knife DIPA and Asension DIPA. Cans will be released on 12/30 at Fulton at noon. They will be available for sale over at Foushee later in the weekend.

Lickinghole Creek will release Heir Apparent this Friday, Dec. 30. The brew is a 11.5% Mexican-Spiced Imperial Stout with the heat of fresh Mexican peppers, Vanilla, Cinnamon and Cocoa Nibs.

Three Notch’d Brewing RVA Collab House will release Chocolate Silk Pie, a milk stout on Thursday. The brew is a collab with the Hilton Downtown Richmond which currently resides in the iconic Miller and Rhoads old location, earlier this year, brought the classic M&R Chocolate Silk Pie back to life, once a staple of the M&R tea room. This stout was brewed as a representation of the pie, boasting notes of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee and vanilla and backed by a smooth, creamy body. YUM!

Steam Bell Beer Works is bringing back their favorite beers from 2016 for one BIG NYE celebration! Plus, they are releasing their newest champagne style beer, The Bellet, an 8% light sour ale fermented over muscadine grapes that they feel has an almost champagne quality. It’s light, delicious and perfect for toasting when the clock strikes midnight. Beer tastings every hour on the hour, performances from local bands BoxCar and The Here and Now and BBQ from Firehouse Bar-B-Que. $15.00 entry fee goes toward the RVA chapter of M.A.D.D. 6:30 pm-1:30 am. 1717 Oak Lake Blvd., Midlothian.

Strangeways is also having a NYE party featuring all of their brews, a burlesque show, midnight toast, and a raffle. Admission includes a midnight toast, snack, and a raffle ticket. Tickets are $10 in advance, $13 at the door.

On Thursay, Strangeways will have a beer and cheese pairing along with a pop up shop. They’re partnered with Truckle Cheesemongers to provide gourmet cheese for to munch on as you sip on their brews. All cheeses and beers from the pairing will be available for purchase while supplies last to get you set up for your own gourmet cheese tray & beer pairing.

The Veil will also help you ring in the new year with their NYE Jam and Ball Drop. The Roseneath Road brewery host a dance party featuring DJs Billycrystalfingers and Chenchilla. They will do their own ball drop at Midnight! Continental Divide will be slinging food all night. Free.

And to help cure those hangovers, Ardent Craft Ales will host a brunch New years Day on Sunday. Mean Bird is providing the eats and the menu will pair their fried chicken & Veggie Bird with some brunch essentials, and Ardent will open a little early to sling their delcious beers & drink specials. The truck will be serving from 11am-3pm.

Kindred Spirit Brewing will host a NYE Family Festival Besides their beer, the Goochland brewery will have a Bounce House and tons of games and fun for the kids. It’s a Potluck dinner so bring your own food for just your crew or to share.

Garden Grove Brewing Company has a couple releases for you this week. First up, ther Saison IPA
6.4% mashup of two of their favorite styles of beer, Saison & IPA. In this ale both styles showcase their individuality while complementing the other. Dry crisp malt character, Spicy, Peppery, Fruit Esters, and Fruit and Tropical hop notes.

The second beer, Triple Threat & the Funkadelic 5, is a 7% Belgian Dubbel crafted with 3 distinct yeast strains and 5 perfectly suited fruits. Fermented in Red Wine Barrels. The Aronia berries, Blueberries, Figs, Raisins, & Currants heighten the dark fruit character of our Belgian Dubbel.

After the New Year, Garden Grove will start up their monthly taproom a beer dinner series again on Jan. 16 with Chef Craig Perkinson from Southbound. Five courses paired with five GG beers. Cost is $38/pp plus tax and tip. Tickets here.
