Hardywood Brewery has announced their newest seasonal pumpkin brew and at 10.5% ABV you can expect your Halloween season to be a little foggy.

Known for their awesome and award winning flavored/spiced beers (see Gingerbread stout), Hardywood doesn’t mess around when it comes to craft beers, and when this new beverage gets released Saturday, Oct. 18th, expect a “hurrah” to echo from a buzzed crowd at their Scotts Addition brewery.

Hardywood’s Head Brewer, Brian Nelson explained why this new Rye Whiskey Barrel Pumpkin brew will replace last year’s famous Hardywood Rum Pumpkin.

“Barrel aging requires time. Our rum barrels are supplied by a Peruvian distillery, so when the distiller needed to give the rum another month in the barrels,” said Nelson in a release. “Our schedule was pushed back as a result. When the rum is done, the barrels open up for us to do our thing.”

A bit more about the brew via the presser:

Hardywood Rye Whiskey Barrel Pumpkin combines the nostalgic flavors and aromas of autumn with a soul warming, rye whiskey laced finish that can only be achieved through months of maturation in Jim Beam rye whiskey barrels.

Doesn’t matter to us really – everything Hardywood touches turns to hoppy-gold, and we trust their skilled hands to craft something truly amazing to help us deal with the screaming kids knocking at our doors on Oct. 31st.

The Rye Whiskey Pumpkin will be available in limited quantities Hardywood’s distributors in Virginia, DC and eastern Pennsylvania beginning October 20, 2014.
