What’s happening craft beer lovers of RVA?! Welcome to this week’s “Tapped,” RVA Magazine’s go to weekly craft beer column where you can find all your craft beer-related events, releases, festivals and all the booze news your little hearts desire.
Our cup is overflowing with news this week from releases, to events, and other cool happenings around town, so hold on to your mugs because we’re getting ready to tap this thing! (You can check out last week’s releases here.)
Hardywood will release Mamaw’s Mean Cobbler this Saturday. Mamaw’s Mean Cobbler is a delightful variation of their Peach Tripel with vanilla, cinnamon and milk sugar additions delivering the classic flavors of a southern-style peach cobbler baked fresh in grandma’s kitchen.
Strangeways will host its Yappy Hour today from 6 to 9 pm. All pups will receive a milk bone treat, and we have plenty of water bowls. 10% of all beer sales during “Yappy Hour” will be supporting a local animal advocacy group.
Triple Crossing will release Helles Chrome Helles Lager this Friday on draft and in crowlers at the Foushee Street location.
Lickinghole Creek will release their Magnificent Pagan Beast this Saturday, a bourbon barrel ale clocking in at 17 percent. Its been called the best beer they’ve ever done, so I would give this one a try.
Castleburg Brewery will release Red Knight of the Rodeo this Saturday, an Imperial Hoppy Amber Ale. The brew was a collaboration with local band Red Light Rodeo, and brewed with Nugget, Cascade and Centennial Hops.
Three Notch’d Brewing Company RVA Collab House will release their Chrome Dome radler this Friday. The radler features Cherry, Lime & Hibiscus and was brewed with I AM RVA & Breakaway RVA. I Am RVA is a local non-profit that advocates for bike safety in the city. I Am RVA sells unique chrome helmets and all proceeds are reinvested into helmets that are donated to children and adults in need! Breakaway RVA specializes in guided bike rides around the city incorporating fun history lessons while promoting the biking community. Collab taps at 5pm, Brewer’s Toast after 6pm and pint specials on the 1st keg until it kicks or until 9pm.
Buskey Cider will host its Summer Shandy launch party today from 3 to 9 pm. Enjoy this seasonal batch all summer long, made with refreshing lemons.
On Thursday, The Veil Brewing Co. will have a Seafood Pop Up featuring Northern Neck Oysters. and Chef Andrew Manning and Steve Farr. Expect Raw Oysters and Crabs from the Chesapeake Bay, Brasa (wood and coal grilled) Monkfish, Spicy Octopus, and more.
Final Gravity will release its Tigris Wheat IPA on Friday. Brewed with Simcoe, Amarillo, and Mosaic, the IPA was named for the river that runs through the Fertile Crescent where wheat was first cultivated. You’ll experience a smooth, easy-drinking IPA with flavors of citrus and fruit.
Garden Grove Brewing Company has a super fun event going on. Tomorrow the Carytown brewery will release the Hundred Hop Slap IPA, an American IPA crafted with Virginia Barley & Belma Hops. It was made for The Street Fighter II Turbo SNES Tournament, Soundtrack Release, & Beer Release Party Fundraiser to benefit Building a Better RPS. It was a collaboration with Bits and Pixels, and 8-Bit Mullet along with 20 Richmond hip hop producers and emcees who collaborated to produce a Street Fighter II-themed compilation album to showcase the collective strength of RVA’s hip-hop scene, pay homage to one of the most game-changing games of all time, and raise funds in behalf of Building a Better RPS.
