Tapped: Isley’s Guacamole Plain Jane & Hardywood’s Savor X

What’s happening craft beer lovers of RVA?! Welcome to this week’s “Tapped,” RVA Magazine’s go to weekly craft beer column where you can find all your craft beer-related events, releases, festivals and all the booze news your little hearts desire.

Our cup is overflowing with news this week from releases, to events, and other cool happenings around town, so hold on to your mugs because we’re getting ready to tap this thing!

Hardywood has a slew of events going on starting today running through the weekend. Tonight, there will be a Vegan Pop Up from 5:30-8:30 pm. Truck lineup; Bikini PaniniEastern Star CateringRiver City Wood Fire Pizza and Hungry Turtle Food Truck.

On Friday, Hardywood is releasing Bob’s Brew and Andrea’s Ale, two beers in support of the Ales for ALS program. Since 2012, Ales for ALS has offered a proprietary blend of hops to over 100 American craft breweries, free of charge, in exchange for their participation in the Ales for ALS program. One dollar from every pint of Ales for ALS beer sold is donated directly to the ALS Therapy Development Institute (ALS TDI), the world’s first and largest nonprofit biotech focused 100 percent on ALS research.

On Saturday, Hardywood will release their collab with  New Belgium Brewing, Savor X-, a robust Baltic Porter with Virginia-sourced hops and Colorado-sourced cacao husks.

 

Isley is back this Friday with their weekly infusion, this tie, its a Guacamole Plain Jane. Yes, you read that right. Available in-house & To-Go in crowlers/growlers.

Isley will also release  its Simon Says Blackberry Wild Ale on Saturday. Its a Lambic Inspired 5.4% Blackberry Wild Ale.

On Saturday, Legend is hosting an Urban Legend Series Scavenger Hunt. Set out in teams of 2-4 to solve Richmond riddles and earn points along the way – Prove it with photos. Snap a picture at every clue’s end and earn an additional 5pts for sharing it via Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram. Registration & check-in begins at Legend Brewing Company at 10am & Scavenger Hunt begins at 11am. Register early on EventBrite.

There will be prizes for the team with the most earned points (in the event of a tie, the team with the faster completion time will win) and the team with the most creative photos.

On Friday, Triple Crossing will release two brews, its Battle Creek DIPA and Valhalla DIPA in cans at their Fulton location. Cans and draft available beginning at 12pm. Image may contain: text

Strangeways Brewing is celebrating the legend himself Prince tonight in honor of his birthday. Get on down there and pay your respects.

Tonight is $1 oyster night at The Veil Brewing Co. Northern Neck Oysters willbring bushels of oysters and they will be shucking them until they run out. Open 4-9pm

Three Notch’d Brewing Company RVA Collab House returns this Thursday with its weekly collaboration. This time, its “Rescue Me Rye” an American Wheat w/ Rye made in partnership with the Richmond Animal League. Rescue Me Rye is collaboration with the Richmond Animal League and a tribute to “Burg”, a beloved dog of RAL that they lost to cancer in recent weeks. Burg was abandoned by his previous owners and once rescued, found a home with Amy (Director of RAL) and the rest of the team. Garden Grove Brewing Company has a few releases for you to try this weekend. Red 5 Red IPA is back! A 6% classic west coast Red IPA. Next up, their Coastal Rye Ale, a  4.2% hazy German Wheat Ale accentuated with a big hit of Rye Malt, Lemongrass, Grains of Paradise, Peppercorns, Sweet Orange Peels, Mediterranean Sea Salt and Coriander. Go give them a try!

This Sunday, head to Center of the Universe to cure your hangover with Bloody Marys and a little bingo fun. Prizes and COTU beer will be flowing as well!
