Tapped: Strangeways Triple Release, Stone’s 2nd Anniversary, & Vasen’s Reedy Creek Lager

What’s happening craft beer lovers of RVA?! Welcome to this week’s “Tapped,” RVA Magazine’s go to weekly craft beer column where you can find all your craft beer-related events, releases, festivals and all the booze news your little hearts’ desire.

If you missed last week’s beer news, you can check those out here. Our cup is overflowing with news this week from releases to events, and other cool happenings around town, so hold on to your mugs because we’re getting ready to tap this thing!

Strangeways Brewing has quite a few brews for you this weekend. The Dabney Road brewery will bring back Wampuus Cat Triple IPA to its taproom, a whopping 10.1 % brew which includes seven hop varieties and will be available on draft and in 22oz bottles to take home.

The brewery will also introduce Magma Milkshake IPA, which is conditioned on Madagascar vanilla beans and double dry-hopped with Mosaic and Citra hops for pungent tropical fruit, guava juice, and peach trees. And last but not least, Strangeways will be pouring Calypsopalooza, a Double Dry-Hopped IPA. The brew has flavors and aromas of tropical fruit, pears, and grapefruit rind.

On Saturday, Center of the Universe will release its Tiramisu Stout. Named “Prost Zur Gesundheit” which basically translates to “Cheers to Good Health,” this brew was made at their sister brewery, Origin Beer Lab, as part of their Satellites Rewards program.

Hardywood will release its Bourbon Barrel Baltic Sunrise this Saturday, a baltic porter made with locally roasted coffee beans and aged in bourbon barrels. The beer will be available in 750mL bottles.

Kindred Spirit Brewing in Goochland will release After Hours VIP, a Vanilla Imperial Porter today. The creamy brew boasts strong flavors of dark chocolate, coffee with a long vanilla finish.

Today, Vasen Brewing in Scott’s Addition will release its Reedy Creek Lager, a beer made to benefit the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay. Väsen will donate 20 percent off all Reedy Creek Lager beer purchases for the night to the organization, which works to restore and protect the lands, rivers, and streams of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed.

Powhatan’s Fine Creek Brewing Company will release Imperial Peated Porter this weekend along with Szechuan Saison, a beer designed by their guest chef from their first pairings dinner. They will also have live music this weekend.

Ardent Craft Ales will release its Commonwealth Man Pilsner on Thursday. This recipe was developed by Brett from Idle Hands Craft Ales and Steve from Ardent Craft Ales and originally brewed at Idle Hands in Massachusetts last year. The brewery’s Berliner Weisse will also be making an appearance!

On Saturday, Midnight Brewery will release Vernal Elixir, a dry-hopped lemongrass saison.

The first beer Stefan McFayden of Three Notch’d RVA Collab House ever brewed at the Richmond location will make its comeback this Thursday. “Hops Addition” is a New England IPA with citrusy flavor and tropical notes.  Pint specials run till 7 PM. Stick around for trivia which starts at 7 pm.

Final Gravity Brewing Co. will tap its Vertigo DIPA this Friday. The brew is a collab with Crooked Run Brewing collab and hopped with Galaxy and Mosaic. One Drop DIPA also returns and both will be available in Growlers and crowlers.

On Monday, Garden Grove Brewing & Urban Winery will host a taproom beer dinner featuring Chef Matt Guhl of Acacia. Five courses paired with five of GG’s brews. $39 plus tax & tip, Reservations Required. Snag your tickets here.

It’s Stone Brewing Richmond’s 2nd Anniversary this Saturday and they are throwing down in a big way. The brewery will be pouring unique variations, vintage releases, barrel-aged brews and a ton of other beers. here’s just a peek at the rundown:

You can check out the full list at the link above. The party will be going from 11 am to 10 pm so plenty of time to stop by and try I few of these. Plus, Stone is donating 10% of draft sales to Gillies Creek Park Foundation so go drink beer to celebrate two years of Stone in Richmond for a good cause!

And for you wine lovers out there, The Graduate is putting on a Paired Dinner this Friday from 6 to 9 PM. A new dinner series for the West Franklin Street hotel, Paired will feature a different, locally-sourced, four-course menu and drink pairing each month.
