What’s happening craft beer lovers of RVA?! Welcome to this week’s “Tapped,” RVA Magazine’s go to weekly craft beer column where you can find all your craft beer-related events, releases, festivals and all the booze news your little hearts’ desire. (And sorry we’re a little late this week, that’s the new business!)
If you missed last week’s beer news, you can check those out here. Our cup is overflowing with news this week from releases to events, and other cool happenings around town, so hold on to your mugs because we’re getting ready to tap this thing!
Hardywood will bring back its beloved juicy IPA Tropication this Saturday with Smokie Joe’s BBQ to pair with it. Draft only!
This Thursday, Final Gravity will release its Glass House American Pale Ale. The 5.5 % brew features Loral Hops presents you with floral, citrus, peppery, and dark fruit flavors.
Strangeways Brewing has a bunch of new beers that were brewed at their Fredericksburg location, but will be making their appearance on the taps at the Richmond location for a limited time! Check out the rundown below:
Mary’s Axe Dry Hopped Farmhouse Ale: A dry-hopped farmhouse ale brewed with Pilsner and wheat malts and dry hopped with Saphir, Mandarina Bavaria and Perle hops. Notes of lemon rind, green tea bags, and stone fruit.
Sometimes Sideways New Zealand Pale Ale: They used their base pale ale recipe of pale, wheat and oat malt, and hopped it up with New Zealand grown hops Green Bullet and Pacific Gem. Citrusy Piney and floral.
Easy Gussy Blonde Ale: A crisp, sessionable blonde ale made with pale malt, with notes of green tea, dried fruit, pepper, and cedar wood.
Boodwooger India Brown Ale: Boodwooger is a different take on our flagship staple brown ale, Woodbooger. Dry hopped with Columbus and Centennial hops to give it aromas of black pepper, resin, orange rind and vanilla. Finishes of bitter chocolate and mahogany.
Turning Torso Farmhouse Ale: Turning Torso is floral farmhouse ale fermented with a mixture of farmhouse and brett blends of yeast. Galaxy and Huell Melon hops give this beer a fruity and floral nose.
Nottingham Striker English Mild Ale: Nottingham Striker is an English Ale, brewed with a variety of specialty malts for a complex, sweet, yet session-able beer. Lightly hopped with Perle and horizon hops to add subtle notes of green tea, spicy pepper and herbs.
On Wednesday, Vasen Brewing released their Dark Cherry Sour, their most sour beer yet. This dark, aggressively tart ale was conditioned on Morello sour cherries to give it wine-like richness and depth.
This Friday, Three Notch’d Brewing RVA Collab House will debut its Practice Makes Passion, a gose made with galaxy hops, brewed in partnership with the Passion Academy. Passion Academy is Virginia’s premier Academy for the Arts that trains, equips and mobilizes people of all ages who want to pursue music and dance disciplines
Intermission Beer Company in Glen Allen is now canning so head over there and take your pick from any of their delicious brews to take home.
Fine Creek Brewing Company in Powhatan now has Norwegian Farmhouse Ale, brewed with Juniper, available in their taproom. They are also bringing back ‘Tractor Juice’, a Belgian Double IPA this weekend. Dave McKenney will be playing on Sunday 12:30-3:30 while they are serving brunch.
On Saturday, Ardent Craft Ale will release their Sauterness Saison, a brew that was aged in Sauternes barrels for four months. Sauternes is a style of French white wine from the Bordeaux region, and this beer reflects the same complexity expected of French wine. Sauternes Saison is dry, with grape and white oak characteristics from the barrels .
