The Richmond Flying Squirrels and CarMax have officially announced that the city’s new ballpark will be named CarMax Park. The announcement was made on Wednesday, September 4, marking a significant expansion in the partnership between the Flying Squirrels and Richmond-based CarMax, which began in 2016.
The multi-year exclusive naming rights agreement will not only make CarMax Park the home of the Flying Squirrels, but the venue will also host year-round events such as concerts, festivals, and community gatherings.
Groundbreaking Ceremony Set
A groundbreaking ceremony for the new ballpark is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on Friday, September 6. Construction is expected to be completed before the start of the Flying Squirrels’ 2026 season.
Fan Festival and Fireworks
To celebrate the announcement, the Flying Squirrels and CarMax will host a fan festival on September 6 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on The Diamond’s front lawn. The event will feature live entertainment, autograph signings by Flying Squirrels players, food vendors, giveaways, and more. Attendees will also have a chance to win four tickets to the inaugural game at CarMax Park. The festival is free and open to the public, with no game ticket required.
The festivities will conclude with an In-Your-Face Fireworks show following the Flying Squirrels’ game against the Akron RubberDucks.
Partnership Impact
Flying Squirrels General Partner Lou DiBella expressed gratitude to CarMax for their long-term support, crediting the company with helping to make the new ballpark a reality. DiBella also thanked Mayor Levar Stoney, City Council members, and Richmond’s loyal fanbase for their contributions to the project.
