What better way could there be to kick off the new year than with some high-quality craft beer and a bunch of crazed performers cavorting half-naked for your entertainment? Doesn’t that sound like fun? Well, with the latest installment of their monthly Brews & Burlesque night, that’s exactly what Those Freaking Weirdos and Strangeways Brewing want to bring to you–and thanks to your friends at RVA Magazine, you could see it all for free! Those Freaking Weirdos is a quartet of burlesque performers bringing a new twist to the local burlesque scene–describing their “neo-burlesque” approach as “involv[ing] more gimmicks and comedy than the satin gloves and feather boas of the classic burlesque style,” Moxie LaBouche, Dante The Inferno, Melody Magpie, and Dev L. Ish come together to present a wild evening of performances that may be “weird” but will always keep you entertained! Happening on the second Friday of each month, these Brews & Burlesque performances will also feature the talents of a fresh initiate into the local burlesque scene–this month’s Nude Newbie will be Mina Corbeau. And of course, DJ Jesse James Felice will be on hand providing lighting and music for the evening’s events.

Strangeways Brewing are getting into the spirit as well, extending their hours to allow for the show’s 9 PM start time and featuring half a dozen varieties of their signature craft beers in the tasting room, where the Brews & Burlesque performance will take place. All the action going down in “pastie-throwing distance of the brewing tanks” is a first for the VA burlesque scene, and Those Freaking Weirdos and Strangeways Brewing promise to pull out all the stops and make this event essential viewing in January 2014 and every month to follow! The space is a bit more intimate than Those Freaking Weirdos’ usual venues, so fans are well advised to order tickets now and make sure you’re able to be in attendance!
