You have to appreciate the tenacity of Todd Schall-Vess. As the creator of Richmond’s New Years Ball, he’s been fighting to keep the tradition going for the city. Everyone told him it couldn’t be done; it was a liability hot potato. We got a call from him earlier this weekend explaining the situation and immediately got involved. Carytown New Years Eve has been a huge homegrown success but with this years complications, it was dead in the water.

“Everyone was telling me to wait for next year when I hadn’t given up on this year. It was frustrating.”

Lucky for Richmond, the good people at Hardywood gladly accepted the challenge. Tonight a Richmond tradition continues at Hardywood starting at 9 and the ball will rise again at midnight. Hope to see everyone there!

Along the way, we’ve hosted events, published stacks of issues, and, most importantly, connected with a hell of a lot of remarkable people who make this place what it is. And no, it’s not made from oranges.. The first time I encountered orange wine (or skin contact white wine), I was wowed by the color and it’s presentation. It’s gorgeous. This beautiful, amber-hued liquid danced around the edges of my swirling wine glass. I gave it a...
