Join us for the first Carole Weinstein Author Series event, the Richmond launch of the eagerly awaited new book from Beth Macy, award-winning author of Factory Man and Truevine. Dopesick is an unforgettable portrait of the families and first responders on the front lines of the devastating opioid crisis in America. Macy will discuss her book and then hold a question and answer session with Dr. Omar Abubaker, chair of Virginia Commonwealth University’s Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. After losing his 21-year-old son to heroin addiction, Dr. Abubaker now spends time speaking to the public about his family’s experience and the need to change how doctors prescribe opioids.
