Legendary performer Bob Dylan is back on tour this fall, and he’s gracing the Richmond Coliseum with a performance on Fri., Nov. 10. As a songwriter who has been active for the past five decades, Dylan has been influential in popular culture and wrote songs that were used in anti-war demonstrations and the Civil Rights Movement. Dylan is a prolific figure in rock with 38 albums, numerous Grammy awards, and even an Academy Award.
Dylan is the voice of his generation, composing songs like “The Times They Are a-Changin’” and “Blowin’ in the Wind,” which became anthems for the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s and other hits like “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door” and “Mr. Tambourine Man”. Since then, Dylan has explored almost every genre within the range of his guitar. He’s performed and recorded gospel, jazz, Irish folk, rockabilly, blues, and country. Dylan has sold more than 100 million records, making him one of the greatest and best-selling artists of all time.
This appearance is on the heels of Bob Dylan’s 38th album release, Triplicate. The album is three discs spanning 30 songs with 10 tracks on each disc, making it the first release from Dylan of its kind. Triplicate’s first single, “I Could Have Told You,” is a perfect homage to the great Frank Sinatra.
In a Columbia Records announcement, Dylan said, “I am finding these great songs to be a tremendous source of inspiration that has led me to one of my most satisfying periods in the studio. I’ve hit upon new ways to uncover and interpret these songs that are right in line with the best recordings of my own songs, and my band and I really seemed to hit our stride on every level with Triplicate.”
Mavis Staples will be opening on this tour.
Tickets will go sale for Bob Dylan’s Nov. 10 show at the Richmond Coliseum this Fri., Sept. 15 and range from $57-$83. You can grab yours this week here.
