This Friday,
Capital Ale House Music Hall Downtown will launch a new series, “Folk Fridays.”

Each month, Capital Ale will bring in a local artist along with a few musicians which will act as sort of a gallery/showcase for the artists. Folk Fridays will feature a local artist who will display their artwork along Capital Ale’s walls along with Americana, Folk, acoustic roots, and other Virginia bands and musicians who will provide music for the series.

Audrey Finney, Capital Ale’s Public Relations and Music Hall Manager said she started planning and getting in contact with the local artists and musicians for the new series last month.

“We have a really great space and I didn’t think it was being used in all the ways that it could,” she said. “I saw the opportunity to bring in local artists and have their art displayed on our walls.”

Finney added bringing in Folk musicians was the perfect choice for their East Main Street Music Hall.

Our sound and the room itself that kind of music sounds so good in there,” Finney said. “It’s what I pictured it being used for.”

Finney said the artists’ artwork will be displayed on the walls for three weeks and the next Folk Friday another artist will be there with their artwork. All of the artists’ artwork will be available for people to buy as well, according to Finney.

One artist and two or three musicians will be featured each month for Folk Fridays.

This Friday, artist NIcoleta Kappatos will display her artwork for the premiere Folk Friday series, and Cabin Creek, Bryan Elijah Smith, and Dane Ferguson will be providing the jams.

Finney said she plans to keep the series monthly and have it as a long-running event at Capital Ale House’s downtown location.

“When I started I wanted to really bring something in there that we could keep doing every month and associate with our brand,” she said. There’s so many artists and so many people with lots of talent in the area I don’t think we could ever run out.”

Finney said they won’t have any specific beer specials for the series, but half of the taps at Capital Ale designated for Virginia beers and many of the local breweries such as Legends, Isley and Ardent.

Folk Fridays kicks off this Fri., July 10 at Capital Ale House’s downtown location at 8:30 pm. Free.
