Oh man, we weren’t too familiar with Laura Veirs, but now that we’ve heard her, we’re hooked.

Have a listen “Finster Saw The Angels” off her newest album Warp and Weft:

Powerful stuff, right? Well you’ve got the unique chance to hear Veirs before she heads to the big Friday Cheers stage and opens for Case Friday night, 6/27.

She’ll be at Plan 9 Carytown – 3017 W Cary St, Richmond, VA – at 12:30 PM – just in time for a late lunch (or a good excuse to leave work early!)

Check out another track by Veirs below:

Veirs was raised in Colorado and studied geology and Mandarin Chinese at Carleton College – this lead to her conducting a geological expedition in China before coming back and settling in Portland, OR.

She released her first album in 1999, a self-titled LP of live solo recordings. Veirs didn’t release another album until 2003 – Troubled by the Fire featured veteran jazz musician Bill Frisell and was released on Nonesuch Records.

Her 2005 release, Year of Meteors was picked as a “critics choice” by the New York Times who said Veirs’ “marvels and cataclysms are intimate, something to sing about with an acoustic guitar and a breathy familiarity that’s almost matter-of-fact.”

Long story short, check her out before she leaves town, and ideally at Plan 9 because this act was made for a small, personal audience.
