Curren$y Spitta, or Curren$y for short, is back on the road this summer for his Cruis’n USA Tour.

The veteran rapper from New Orleans is expanding on his muscle car theme he’s explored in recent projects, such as 2015’s Canal Street Confidential. A noteworthy lyricist, Curren$y has been a staple in hip-hop for some time, as his lineage traces back to Master P’s No Limit Label and Lil Wayne’s Young Money Entertainment.

The rapper has a storied collaboration history, such as the aforementioned Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa, Smoke DZA, and The Alchemist. Originally, the southern rapper was signed to P’s No Limit at the height of their popularity.

He then moved on to crosstown friendly rival, Young Money. As the premier artist on Young Money in the beginning of the upstart label, Curren$y gained attention for his laid back flow and sharp wordplay. After a short run with Wayne at the height of his mixtape run, Curren$y separated from the label and signed on to Warner Brothers. At Warner, Curren$y worked with artists such as The Alchemist and Wiz Khalifa to make some of his most noteworthy music in his catalogue such as 2010’s How Fly (Khalifa) and the critically acclaimed Covert Coup (The Alchemist.)

2012’s Cigarette Boats with Harry Fraud produced a Curren$y highlight, “Leaving the Dock”; check it out below.

Now running his own imprint, Jet Life Recordings, Curren$y has released plenty of music for free and for sale to satisfy his passionate fanbase. Most recently, Curren$y released Bourbon Street Secrets in collaboration with Purps and 808 Mafia on 4/20. Recently, the first visual for the project dropped called “Grand Theft Auto”. Check out the the rapper’s love of cars below.

Not the traditional ‘stoner rapper’, Curren$y has taken the approach to rap about his life and in particular having fun (hence J.E.T. Life or Just Enjoy this Sh*t). That easy-going approach has made him a successful underground artist with the ability to sustain a succesful career over a decade +.

The Cruis’n USA tour hits RVA this Thursday, May 19, 2016 at The National. Tickets are $20.00 online and $23.00 at the door – scoop them early here. Doors open at 7:00 P.M.
