Electro-songstress and RVA native Negative Gemini returns for the first time in two years to play Dazeases EP release show

While RVA continues to get hyped on new electronic female performers, an old favorite from our recent past is returning to show us what the best and brightest can become.

Negative Gemini, the stage name of RVA-native Lindz French, will perform during this weekend’s Dazeases EP release at Strange Matter, her first local show since she left for NYC two years ago.

Fresh of the release of her acclaimed full length Body Work, French’s music taps into a number of raw and powerful emotions, all set to haunting electronic beats. The pint-sized vocalists and beat maker offers a massive sound with the throwback beats and tones that have risen to prominence under new titles like “vapourwave” alongside other late-90’s dance tracks.

“It’s been really incredible,” French said about the days touring since Body Work‘s release. “Things seem to be steady growing ever since its release. And I know touring has played a big part in that.”

Touring has also helped show her just what kind of an impact her music has made on her fans.

“In New York, everyones just so cool and doesn’t freak out over much, but when you get out of the city and you go to new cities people are coming to the shows, bringing their albums for us to sign and singing along with the songs,” she said. “It’s been awesome, you can see you’re getting plays [online] statistically, but you go out and meet these people and you see the positivity you’ve brought to their life. It’s hard to really grasp, but its wonderful to see that manifest itself physically.”

And that live audience has proven both dancey and unpredictable.

“People get worked up,” she said laughing. “Somebody stole my set list at one show and I couldn’t play without it… but I got it back.”

The highlight of the show is the release of Local Slut, the new EP release for local talent Dazeases. The album is dropping on RVA’s own Egg Hunt Records as part of the label’s Hatched series which offers a subscription-type service to snag many of the label’s new releases this year.

Long time-RVA Musician Landis Wine has been working with Egg Hunt on the project and helped set the show this weekend.

“It’s been really amazing to watch Lindsey blow up on the national stage and hear her music evolve over the past several years,” said Wine about why he reached out to French to help build hype for the release show. “I’m excited to see her in Richmond again for the first time in two years.”

Keep an eye out for more info on the new Dazeases release in the next RVAMag print issues, and head out to Strange Matter this Saturday, 3/11, to catch it all live.
