@DougFinesse continues to bring the energy and vibrant flows in his latest self-titled project, Doug EP. After emerging onto the RVA scene earlier this summer with his single “Unusual” featuring Solomon Bullet, Finesse has finally released his highly anticipated EP.

He’s been shopping the record throughout the North East and it seems to have paid off with gigs opened for big artist like @OGMaco in early July.

Finesses’ EP only consists of six songs, but each has its own distinct feel. Despite so few tracks, the Richmond rapper was able to touch on many topics, as well as experiment with a lot of production styles and flows for the project. Throughout the tape you can hear experiments with different harmonies and a successful incorporation of rock, R&B, house, and hip-hop.

This makes for a diverse and vibrant project.

The rapper said he worked with folks around around the state, like Jack TP, #1DRAFTPICKREEM and Era Hardaway to help build the sound and “have a complete sound of Virginia” on the release.

“On records like ‘Aint’t Perfect’ and ‘Tomorrow,’ I showed a deeper side of me that I don’t usually express in my music,” Finesse said. “While still staying true to my sound with fun, high energy records like ‘Unusual’ and ‘PLT.’”

With things bouncing into different directions throughout the tape, Finesse brings everything together with the final track “Tomorrow.” Although he describes the turn up life on most of the record, his approach switches at the end of the tape to create a track he called his favorite.

“With all the madness going on in the world, I made [“Tomorrow”] to let people know that tomorrow isn’t promised, so make the best out of today,” he said.

Finesse states, “I recorded this whole entire project at Jack TP’s in house studio. We would sit in the studio for hours bouncing ideas back and forth trying to find something new we can add into our music.”

With Finesses’ hard work, and his supporting cast pushing him, he was able to create an immaculate project. Of course, the rapper didn’t just stop after the record drops.

“I released the song “Double” 13 days after the project dropped because I didn’t want people to forget about the EP, not even for a second,” he said, hoping this method of marketing will make impacts along side his undeniable work ethic.

You can continue to watch Finesses’ growth by listening to his project on SoundCloud while he continues to work on his debut album, Thrive, do out some time in the future.

“I feel like everything I have done so far has built this huge momentum for the upcoming album and I truly can’t wait for everyone to hear it.”
