Up and coming RVA hip hop artist Tuch discusses Epic Fest performance, touring and debut EP

We’ve seen so many hip hop artists come onto the RVA music scene this year and it’s hard to keep up with all their new music. We were first turned on to 23-year-old Richmond native Tuch at this year’s Epic Fest VI, an annual hip hop festival showcasing the area’s best talent.

We’ve seen so many hip hop artists come onto the RVA music scene this year and it’s hard to keep up with all their new music. We were first turned on to 23-year-old Richmond native Tuch at this year’s Epic Fest VI, an annual hip hop festival showcasing the area’s best talent.

Since then, local hip hop heads have been buzzing about his performance, and the artist has dropped a passionate EP, music video for new single “Numbers,” and even started showcasing his talents outside RVA.

“After Epic Fest I ended up going on a tour called the ‘Freedom Tour’ hosted by Winners Circle,” he said. “The tour was crazy man, every spot showed love and it felt really good to put on for Richmond.”

Prior to performing at Epic Fest VI and going on tour, Tuch released his debut nine-song mixtape, All Hail Tuch, which was featured on the hip hop blog Spinrilla in June.

He described his debut project, All Hail Tuch, which he recorded at Boombox Studio last year, as a personal reflection of himself.

“Everything on the tape was very thorough, relatable, and authentic,” he said. “My sound is very original and I am telling my story, so I felt like I had to self-title the mixtape.”

He shows his authenticity in songs such as, “Numbers,” “The Guap,” and “Plug You In.” Each track brings energy to the tape. When Tuch performed “Numbers” at Epic Fest VI this summer, the excitement and vibe from the crowd was undenialbe.

“Plug You In” is one of the top songs off the tape because of the mixing behind the song. Everything was impressive for the song, and the bass slaps throughout the record.

Tuch described his music as “underdog” music. “Born to lose built to win is my mentality,” he said. “Regardless of how negative a situation may be you cannot let it stop you from getting to where you want to be ultimately.”

With the success of the tape, Tuch feels a lot more comfortable in the studio now. “I didn’t originally rap, I would always write, but I didn’t start recording until last year,” he said.

However, with all the energy and charisma throughout the tape, Tuch gives off the vibe and confidence of a seasoned rapper.

When Tuch is in the studio these days he makes sure the energy in the room is very relaxed, but he also makes sure everyone is ready to work. He doesn’t “turn up” normally, but he knows energy is an essential part in creating music.

“It’s important to me to make sure everyone is enjoying themselves in the creative process of making the music,” said Tuch.

Now that Tuch is done pushing his mixtape, touring, and performing he hs started the groundwork on his next project.

“I am currently working on a five song EP, which will drop in November,” he said. “After the EP, I will jump into working on another mixtape that will be exclusively produced by Yung Lan.”
