Richmond’s metal scene is world renown, but with folks like Toxic Moxie and now Toward Space, we might have a new sound to celebrate in the city.

Richmond’s metal scene is world renown, but with folks like Toxic Moxie and now Toward Space, we might have a new sound to celebrate in the city.

Toward Space, made up of Siyla Hossaini, Javs Yamamoto and David Pahtoon, channels a dark form of power pop, particularly with their new track/video “La Luna.” Check it out below:

“It was like a fictional story that I started writing and I didn’t have the patience to write a novel so i wrote a song instead,” said Hossaini in an interview with RVAMag about the new track.

The band is made up of mostly VCU students or recent grads and is currently their Safe Cult Tour. The video was shot at RVA’s Sound of Music studios with help from SoM’s lead man John Morand.

Featuring the band performing at SoM, cut with live footage from places like Our House and b-roll of the streets of RVA, there’s a lot to love in the nearly 5 min track/video.

“Morand actually came up with most of the concepts for the video,” Hossaini said. “Him and Angie Huckstep, who filmed and directed the video, are close friends of ours so they know us very well and how to portray us”

You can check out the rest of Toward Space’s EP, Avoid The Draft, below or here, and keep up with the band on Facebook here.
