UK Grindcore gods Carcass and sludge-pioneers Crowbar take the Broadberry stage tomorrow night (8/2)

Extreme metal/grindcore legends Carcass, hailing all the way from England, will be at The Broadberry tomorrow night to give Richmond a bloody good show.

The lineup, bolstered by other greats like Crowbar, Ghoul and Night Demon, is incredible on its own, making this an event you’re not going to want to miss.

Carcass are known for their successful blending of grindcore and death metal in their early sound, but are also famed for their pioneering of melodic death metal midway through their career with the wildly successful 1994 album Heartwork. Managing to inject their punishing grindcore sound with melody and yielding great results, the shift in style on Heartwork did nothing to alienate their loyal fanbase or dilute their heaviness, instead being seen as their breakthrough album.

Carcass’ 1991 album, Necroticism – Descanting the Insalubrious, is also highly acclaimed. Surgical Steel, released in 2013, is their most recent album and the first since 1996’s Swansong, serving as a brutal, in-your-face reminder that Carcass can still fuck shit up after such a long period of creative stagnation.

Crowbar, a highly influential sludge metal band from New Orleans, are famous for being important proponents of sludge metal in the 90’s, melting countless faces with their slow tempo songs, anguished vocals and distorted, grueling guitar riffs. They played The Broadberry back in April and it was an absolute shitshow.

Rounded out by Ghoul, an excellently brutal, burlap-sack wearing thrash metal band from Oakland, CA, and Night Demon, a great metal band from Ventura, CA that hearkens back to a classic metal sound, this all-ages show is an absolute must-see for anyone remotely interested in metal.
