Our favorite local jazz ensemble NO BS! Brass Band has just dropped a video to go along with their new song “3AM Bounce”-and it’s awesome.

It doesn’t even need a video really because the song makes you want to get up and dance already, but No BS! wanted to have some visuals to go along with the first single off their sixth album, Brass Knuckles, which dropped in November.

According to founding member and trombone player Reggie Pace, the song is about those late night conversations you have with your friends about the world, or venting after a hard day at work. But at the end of the day you just want to enjoy yourself and have fun.

“3AM Bounce” starts off strong with this tension-filled sound and then explodes with some bouncy jazz and ends with a big party, sort of telling a story through the instruments.

“It is like a sound painting of that feeling, when you’re hanging out late night with your friends talking about that real shit, somtimes it’s politics somtimes it’s work,” he said. “Eventually the whole thing is youy guys are together and that’s all matters, you had that human interaction.”

Pace said we all have bad times, but with this song, the message with this song is focusing on the good times and being togehter.

The video was designed by Richmond-based glitch video artist oldneon. Pace said he uses primiarly vintage video gear, such as VCRs, camcorders and other old video mixtures to create the imagery you see in the video.

He is the producer and live vidual artist for the RVA hip hop collective Satellite Syndicate, but started working with NO BS! on the video about a month ago.

“His style is really unique,” Pace said.

Pace said they plan to put a lot of videos out for this new album.

NO BS! Brass Band’s first show of the new year will be on Jan. 9th at The Broadberry so go check that out to dance to their hot new album. You can get your tickets for that here.

The jazz collective will also play the Winter Jazzfest in New York City Jan. 16th. Tickets for that can be purchased here.
