Summer Reggae Jam hits The Broadberry this Saturday

Get ready for some super heavy reggae jams mon. The Broadberry will bring five reggae acts to its venue July 18 with its Richmond Summer Reggae Jam.

Get ready for some super heavy reggae jams mon. The Broadberry will bring five reggae acts to its venue July 18 with its Richmond Summer Reggae Jam. Mighty Joshua, Buddha Council, Ricochet Red, and New Kingston will bring their good vibes to the West Broad Street music venue this Saturday.

Headliner The Itals are a three-member Jamaican group that have been performing since the 70s. The group recorded several albums through the late 1970s and 1980s, with Ronnie Davis going on to a successful solo career in 1997 as Ronnie Davis and Idren. The Itals’ debut single, “In A Dis Ya Time”, is said to be their hit song.

Mighty Joshua is a Richmond native, and draws from his musical roots in African percussion. He’s been a vocalist and percussionist for the band Antero since 2007 who won “Favorite New Band” at the Virginia Reggae Awards in 2008.

Buddha Council is a seven-member reggae/dub group out of South East Virginia. Their debut album was released in May 2014.

New Kingston formed in 2006 by brothers Tahir Panton (keys), Courtney Jr. Panton (drums) & Stephen Panton (guitar) in Brooklyn. They’ve released two albums that incorporate R&B, Hip-Hop and Jazz with their heritage genre Reggae and plan to release a third album this year.

Ricochet Red hails from Rochester, NY and is a producer that creates beats while mixing old school dub reggae.

Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door.
