This Just In: GWAR Will Be Playing This Year’s Gwar-B-Q! Tickets On Sale June 6

by | May 19, 2014 | MUSIC

So first we heard that the 2014 GWAR-B-Q would continue on as scheduled despite the untimely passing of Dave Brockie, aka Oderus Urungus. Then we learned that the event’s headliner would be none other than Body Count, the thrash metal project fronted by legendary rapper Ice-T. Now comes the strangest and most exciting news of all: in spite of Oderus having passed from this mortal coil, the mighty alien overlords of GWAR will take the stage again at the Fifth Annual GWAR-B-Q on August 16, 2014.

“How could this be?” I hear you asking. Yeah, we asked the same thing when we got the press release. Here’s the scoop:

Conflicting reports indicate that GWAR’s performance will be led by none other than original recipe Beefcake the Mighty, aka Mike Bishop, or quite possibly it was misinterpreted as the Colonel’s original chicken recipe. Who knows? Be there to find out for yourself as this historic metal event unfolds.

So in all seriousness, it appears that Michael Bishop will be doing double duty at this year’s GWAR-B-Q, not only fronting his reunited 90s-era noise-rock group Kepone but also taking the stage as frontman for GWAR. Bishop may not have been a member for the group’s entire duration, but he certainly put his creative stamp on the way the band evolved during his dozen-year tenure as the “original recipe Beefcake,” so if anyone were to capably step into the role vacated by Brockie, he’s one of the few who could be counted on to do it right.

2014 GWAR-B-Q tickets will go on sale on Friday, June 6. They will be sold exclusively through GWARBQ.com, and will be available in three options:

Standard general admission ticket: $45
Deluxe general admission ticket: $65, includes official GWAR-B-Q t-shirt
Premium ticket (limited quantities, only 150 available): $200, includes official
GWAR B-Q t-shirt, B4BQ show entry, VIP Pass for private Gwafter Party (venue TBA), as well as Meet & Greet signings with GWAR, Ice-T of Body Count, Hatebreed, Bam Margera of Jackass, and a possible chance to appear on stage with GWAR.

If previous years are any indication, the Premium tickets will go super-fast, so if you’re shooting for one of those (and they’re definitely worth the extra cash), make sure you’re ready bright and early on June 6 for tickets to go on sale. The direct link for purchase will be http://gwarbq.com/buy-tickets, so bookmark it now!
